Live music concerts in Birkenhead are about to get gloriously unruly when Oh My God! It's The Church brings The Original Sinners tour to Future Yard on November 6.

The group promises more than a conventional gig, mixing gospel rock music with funk soul music and a generous helping of theatrical mischief.

At the centre is The Rt Rev Michael Alabama Jackson, a larger-than-life frontman who leads the performance with the energy of a preacher and the instincts of a showman.

A rock show can make a room loud, but this one aims to make everyone in it feel involved.

Expect dancing, audience participation and the sort of joyful chaos that refuses to stay neatly onstage.

The band's blend of gospel fervour, soul vocals, funk rhythms and rock ’n’ roll gives the night its distinctive pulse.

That crossover is the point: listeners need not arrive with a favourite genre to find a way into the music.

For Birkenhead, the stop brings a touring spectacle into a venue where audiences can experience its big personality at close range.

Future Yard, at 75 Argyle Street, has also added a second performance space, alongside mixed-use studios and teaching spaces.

Those additions give the venue a role beyond hosting shows, with room for creative work and learning as well as nights out.

The Original Sinners tour includes other UK stops and a festival appearance in Germany, but its Birkenhead visit offers something those dates cannot: this particular crowd.

That matters for a band whose shows depend on what happens between the performers and the people dancing in front of them.

No two nights are likely to feel quite the same.

The band’s music may borrow the language of a revival, yet the invitation is simple enough: turn up, join in and enjoy yourself.

Tickets for the November 6 performance are on sale.

Among this season’s live music concerts, the Future Yard date stands out for its blend of spectacle, humour and communal release.
